Solution 1: Count the number of affected users

Determine how many people are impacted by using a different login credential to access the same company file. If only one user is faced by this issue, then the login credentials used by him/her may have been damaged. In that case, you will be required to create new login credentials.

A regular user’s credentials get damaged

  • Setup Users and Passwords > Setup Users from the Company menu.
  • Customers: Go to Company > Users > Set Up Users and Roles.

 

  • Optionally provide a username and password. Next.
  • Don't use the broken username.
  • After customizing the user, choose Finish.
  • Close company/logoff from the File menu.
  • Log in to the corporate file with the new password.

Admin credentials get damaged

Run the QuickBooks File Doctor (QB Tool Hub). QuickBooks Tool Hub program can fix most login and server related issues. Make sure you close QuickBooks before launching the Tool Hub program.

Solution 2: Suppress QuickBooks Desktop

Step 1: Suppress QuickBooks Desktop before QuickBooks

  • Hold the Ctrl key down.

Step 2: While opening your Company File, suppress the desktop

  • Choose a business file from the No Company Open window.

Solution 3: Open a sample Company File

This helps you determine whether the issue is with your company file or QuickBooks program.

If the sample file opens, then either your Company File or the folder where it is kept may be damaged. Move the file to a new folder. You can restore the file from a recent backup if the problem persists. If your backup or ADR isn't working, some simple data damage troubleshooting.

If the sample file has the same issue, go to solution 4.

  • Open a sample file from the No Company window. 


  • Pick a file from the list.

Move the Company File

Copying and accessing Company File from a different place might reveal a damaged or "too deep" folder that has exceeded the file system path restriction. After relocating the company file, your company file or QuickBooks installation is broken if you get the same issue.

  • From the context menu, choose New > Folder.> Folder QBTEST.
  • Open the corporate file folder.
  • Right-click and choose Copy.
  • Paste the business file into the QBTEST folder.
  • Open the QBTEST corporate file.
